Puppetry has the power to transcend borders, and we’re excited to announce the UNIMA Symposium on "Borders – Puppetry Unborders", taking place as part of the 2025 UNIMA Congress and the Chuncheon World Puppet Festival. This is an excellent opportunity for those passionate about puppetry to explore how this art form challenges and moves beyond boundaries – whether physical, cultural, or conceptual. ✨

This symposium is a call for papers that explore the theme of borders within the world of puppetry. We want to hear from scholars, artists, and creators who are interested in discussing how puppets, animated objects, and related animants (Waszkiel 2015) can question, fracture, displace, and transcend borders. It’s a chance to think about how puppetry can confront boundaries in a variety of contexts, be it artistic, social, or political.
Call for Papers:
We welcome submissions in the form of academic papers or art practice presentations, all exploring the idea of boundaries in puppetry. Whether you’re looking at how puppetry can challenge existing norms or how it can create new spaces for dialogue, we’d love to hear your ideas.

Languages: Submissions can be made in Korean or English.
Formats: Academic papers or presentations of artistic practices.
Length: Presentations should be 20 minutes in length.
