British UNIMA is entering an exciting new chapter, and we’re looking for two people to join our committee as Chair and Treasurer.
As the UK National Centre of UNIMA (Union Internationale de la Marionnette), we connect puppeteers, makers, educators, researchers, students, organisations and enthusiasts across the UK while building relationships with colleagues around the world.
Our committee is made up of volunteers who care about puppetry and want to support the sector. Together we organise talks and events, share opportunities through our newsletter, promote UK puppetry internationally, and help connect our members with the wider UNIMA community.
We’re now looking for a Chair and a Treasurer to help guide the next stage of British UNIMA.
You don’t need to have done these roles before. If you’re enthusiastic, collaborative and interested in supporting the puppetry community, we’d love to hear from you. Full support and a handover will be provided.

A note on transition
After many years of dedicated service, our current Chair and Treasurer are stepping back from their roles. We are deeply grateful for their long-standing commitment and the significant contribution they have made to British UNIMA.
Importantly, both remain actively involved with the organisation and continue to support the committee during this transition period.
We are also pleased to note that our previous Chair remains closely connected to UNIMA International, serving on its board, ensuring strong ongoing links between British UNIMA and the wider international network.
This is a moment of continuity as well as renewal, with strong foundations already in place for the next stage of development.

Chair
The Chair helps provide leadership for the committee, chairs meetings, and works with committee members to support British UNIMA’s activities and future direction.
We’re looking for someone who enjoys bringing people together, encouraging ideas and helping projects move forward.
Typical responsibilities include:
Chairing committee meetings
Supporting and coordinating the committee
Helping develop British UNIMA’s vision and activities
Acting as an ambassador for the organisation
Working with the committee to support our charitable objectives
Treasurer
The Treasurer oversees British UNIMA’s finances and supports the committee in ensuring strong financial governance, sustainability, and income generation.
This role is not only about bookkeeping — it also plays an important part in helping the organisation explore funding opportunities, support basic income generation ideas, and contribute to the financial sustainability of British UNIMA.
A full handover will be provided, along with ongoing support from the committee.
Responsibilities include:
Monitoring income and expenditure
Supporting financial reporting to committee meetings
Assisting with annual accounts
Helping with budgeting and planning
Supporting fundraising and income generation activity
Contributing ideas for funding applications and sustainability
Working with the committee on financial decision-making
Time commitment
Both roles are voluntary.
Committee meetings are generally held online, with occasional in-person meetings and events. The time commitment varies throughout the year but is designed to fit around work and other commitments.
